Grading Process at SCOT
Why Grade?
A grading standard for finished and crust ostrich leather will reflect its cutting
value, which in turn will determine the monetary value of each individual skin.
Due to an array of unique requirements of our customers, a certain quality grade
may be required to enable them to manufacture a specific product.
|
To assist grade-specific customers, a grading norm
is mutually agreed on prior to purchase. Once agreed upon, the norm, as well as
the interpretation thereof does not normally change. While the variation in supply
and demand of ostrich leather is affected by general business cycles, these do not
have an effect on the grading norm, only pricing may be adjusted. |
A note of advice: It is generally not advisable to purchase leather in a table run
of grades as this practice undermines the ability of the manufacturer to calculate
cost of manufacturing correctly and consistently.
